Individual Ideas and Group Decision
Zabrina: A group of girls who all want to be the leader and
seen as the most popular in the college so they all come up with challenges for
each other as a way for them to decide who's the group leader. However, when
the challenges get out of control bad things start happening to each and
everyone one of the girls till there's only one left.
Ella: A group of friends go out and something bad happens.
Then some of the friends start to die. No one would expect the quiet sweet and
innocent friend to be a cold hearted killer.
Laura: There is a house, a young girl lives there with her
family. She meets a man online; he then starts targeting the girl because he
thinks she is his daughter. He sneaks into the house one night and kills her
because she doesn't love him and the house becomes haunted with her ghost. Her
mum and dad cannot stand to stay in the house anymore and the house becomes
abandoned.
Callum: A young film maker is pressured into spending the
night in a haunted old house. Sensing the opportunity for a great feature, she
takes her camera to document the night. Upon arriving, paranormal instances
drive her to insanity. In the morning she has disappeared. Only her footage
remains.
Laura: There is a house, a young girl lives there with her family. She meets a man online, he then starts targeting the girl because he thinks she is his daughter. Chosen Idea: Our groups chosen idea is a mixture of everyone’s.
We decided to base it around Callum’s idea but have incorporated some section
of everyone else’s. We added my idea of having a group of friends but changed
it slightly to Zabrina’s idea of a group of ‘popular’ girls who have clashing
leads as a basis for the characters. We added Laura’s idea for the back story
of the house, a young girl dying in the house years previous and the family
leaving it abandoned. Instead of her disappearing we added a twist to the
ending of having her have the same fate as the other girl. Another tweak we
made is that she wasn’t a film student but we kept in the fact that she filmed
herself there.
Synopsis for Horror Trailer
Equilibrium: She goes to school/college and spends time with
her friends
Event: She goes into the old house
Recognition: All exterior doors lock- crazy paranormal
events start happening
Resolution: Kills herself
A young teenage girl and her friends have what starts out to
be a usual day at school/college. Her friend group dynamic is constantly
unstable due to the clashing personalities between two of the girls, they
constantly argue about who should be in charge of their group. One of them
questions the other and thinks that there should be a challenge to sort this
out. They decide the best cause of action is a bet, the winner gets to be
leader of their friend group. Their bet is can she spend one night in the old abandon
house they past every day even though the rumours are it is haunted. She agrees
to this bet because she believes it will be easy, she was far from right.
The next day she packs a bag and her closest friend tries to convince her not to go. Her friend researches the house and discovers that a teenage girl was found hanging in one of the bedrooms several years ago. The mystery was never solved, no note or murderer was found and rumour has it that her disturbed soul still walks the house. Ignoring what her friend said, she heads to the house. Upon arriving she finds the front door unlocked. She enters and starts looking round. After a couple of hours strange things start happening. First the doors slam shut and lock meaning no escape. Then lights go out, she enters one room and objects are flying at her. She tries to escape but gets dragged back and dragged down a corridor. In the end the paranoia gets to her which causes her to end her life by hanging herself inside the house.
Key Characters:
The Lead Girl: She is a girl who knows what she wants and won't let anything or anyone get in her way. She wants to be the leader of the group to improve her status at college and isn't afraid to do that bet. Even though she doesn't know what she is getting herself into.Pressuring Friend: She has a similar personality to the 'lead girl' which is a problem for the group as these two rivals don't seem to see eye to eye much. She decides to make a bet with 'lead girl' to see if she has what it takes to be in charge of their group.

Male Friend: The only male in this group, he is more on the 'lead girl's' side than the 'pressuring friends's'. He wants 'lead girl' to win the bet but doesn't want her to get her so he cautions her about it by telling her not to go.
Comforting Friend: She is a shy, quiet, friendly person who is closest to 'lead girl'. She is the one who informs 'lead girl' about the dangers of being in Anderson House. She is the last person to try and convince 'lead girl' to not go.(Picture on the left is from T.V series Scream Queens, this is an example of a character from a current horror themed show/film who is like our comforting friend)
Mood Boards for Horror Trailer
We have looked at existing horror films which are similar to the one we will make. This gave us ideas on what types of shots and scenes that we can incorporate into our own trailer. We looked at found footage style horrors as we are planning to incorporate some of those style shots into our trailer. These include Paranormal Activity, Unfriended etc. We also looked at films that are based in houses that have paranormal activity happen inside. These include Poltergeist, Insidious, The Conjuring, etc. These helped us to make sure we are producing the right kind of shots into our trailer.
Survey for Horror Trailer
The outcome of our survey was what we expected apart from some people not liking our synopsis by saying it was 'cheesy' or 'predictable'. However we have decided to incorporate one of the top genres into our film as this was what the audience response was. This genre was Psychological Horror, more people preferred that to all the others, so we had to alter our plan to fit in some sort of Psychological horror. We have decided to do this through not actually showing an evil but having the presence of one.
The gender that answered the questionnaire most was males, so we would possibly cater more to a male audience. However we are planning on using an all female cast a part from one male. This maybe targeted more at females because of this but if male gaze is used them we can aim it at males as well.
We also got very mixed views on our plot. Some people liked it but others didn't. They thought the plot was a bit weak or seems to like horror films that are out there. On the other hand some people did like the plot as they like paranormal style horrors.
Shot Types for Horror Trailer
We have looked at various different shot types to help us when we come to film. We did this so we could get an idea of the different shots that have been used in existing horror or non films. Some of them are from similar horror films and some are characters that we have based or are similar to our characters. We have looked at Mean girls because we have a 'mean girls' type friend group so we needed to have examples of how to set up that small scene. We have also looked at Scream Queens because they also have a similar 'mean girls' group as well as it being a horror television series. Other films include Blair Witch Project, Twilight etc.
