What have I learned from my research

From my research I have learned that the horror genre was greatly influenced by WW1 and WW2. For example in the beginning they mostly focused on expressions and later on mutant creatures came from the threat of attack after WW2 and alien invaders.

I also did not realise to what extent people enjoy horror films, that they would laugh at the gore and body torture. I have also learnt that horror films use the 'male gaze theory' in which the camera would linger on certain parts of the female anatomy and that males enjoy the 'hot' female running around in hardly any clothing while being chased my a mass murdering psychopath.

I roughly knew about the 'final girl theory' but I did not realise to what extant a female had to go to. She has to have a lot of masculine features to herself such as short hair and stronger than the other females.

I have also learnt what makes a good horror trailer because all trailers in general have a slow equilibrium beginning to them but then quickly build up pace to show some of the suffering scenes before the last sock/jump scare scene at the very end. I have learnt that horror films are typically aimed at males as there is a lot of male gaze films and typical they like the content of the films. However females are increasingly liking horror films as they like to be scared. I have learned through my research into film distribution that there are a lot of different things that have to be done, for example they have to like the film, then think about how well they think it will do once it is out, sort out how they will market the film and all of this has to be done before the film is released.
